Influence of Western culture on Indian culture
Culture is the social behavior and norms found in human society. It
is the characteristic and knowledge of a particular group of people,
encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. It is
an integrated pattern of human knowledge, belief and behavior.
Indian culture is a blend of
diversities in customs, rituals, traditions, language, etc., which varies from
region to region within the country. It is one of the oldestand is a
combination of various cultures. Indian culture is one of the richest cultures around the globe; it has a long
shaped history and an ancient heritage. There are many festivals that Indians
celebrate every year. India has a population of more than 1 billion and has a
culture in which there are more than 700 languages spoken. One can pinpoint one
location on the map of India and will find a different culture there. The
traditions in each part of the country that are being followed are a little bit
different but still have some or the other thing common in it. In India, people
greet each other with a ‘Namaskaar’ or by touching the feet of the other
person. Women here wear saree, suit, lehanga while men wear dhoti, kurta. But
now this culture is however being impacted by westernization and everything is
slowly changing and is becoming western. Western culture is quite advanced and
open. Often we call adapting the western culture as being Modern. The norms,
beliefs, values, traditions, customs and practices of western culture are
greatly inspired by European culture. Moreover, it includes British culture,
French culture, Spanish culture, etc. Westernization is a kind of globalization
which is spreading throughout the eastern countries especially in India. The
western culture is now kicking in and is changing the Indian culture, e.g.
goods, festivals, dressing, foods etc, it is influencing the Indian culture in
many ways.
